International Baccalaureate Overview

A strong and well-developed curriculum is the core of what we do. The world renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) gives students instant credibility for admission to any post-secondary university or college they choose, anywhere in the world. We will be offering the IB's following three programmes: the Primary Years (PYP, Pre-K  to Grade 5), Middle Years (MYP,  Grades 6 to 10) and the Diploma Programme (DP, Grades 11 and 12). These address the unique learning needs for each stage of a child's intellectual development.

Since 1968, the IB's programmes have been researched, tested and proven successful in providing students with an outstanding foundation from which to launch their adult lives and pursue all of their dreams and ambitions.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The PYP is an international framework which focuses on the development of the whole child addressing social, physical, emotional, cultural and academic needs for learners in the 3-11 age range. It provides an opportunity for learners to construct meaning, principally through concept – driven inquiry. The PYP framework is made up of five essential elements:
Knowledge     Concepts     Skills     Attitudes     Action
At UTS we offer a dynamic and nurturing Early Years Programme. Children are given opportunities to construct and expand their knowledge and understanding through shared experiences in an organised, safe and stimulating environment. Our children learn through discovery and student-led inquiry with specialist teachers complementing the Early Years’ philosophy of learning through play and discovery.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The MYP (Grades 6 to 10) is specifically designed for students who are making the transition from early puberty to mid-adolescence. This time of life is characterised by a significant period of personal, social and intellectual development, of uncertainty and questioning. The MYP is rigorous and challenging, yet flexible enough to allow for the adoption of UAE national standards as needed.

Diploma Programme (DP)
Students in Grades 11 and 12 follow the Diploma Programme. The DP prepares students for university and encourages them to ask challenging questions, learn how to learn, develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture and develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures. Students at the Diploma level are expected to meet the demands of this rigorous and challenging programme whilst at the same time be leaders and positive role models in the school and wider community.
The IB Diploma is recognised by the world’s leading universities.
